President's Report:
By Anita
The 2018 Maleny Agricultural Show is over. As part of the Agricultural Show celebrations Maleny has a Window Dressing Competition. Congratulations to Priscilla and Heather who, for the third year running won this competition. It takes many months of planning and making items to achieve this outcome. Again, Congratulations.
As to be expected a number of our talented members received prizes for work they had entered in to the various sections. It is not uncommon to hear a member saying, “I did not think my work was good enough to enter.” Sometimes, “But I am just a beginner.” Often another member had persuaded them to enter, and they, to their surprise had won a prize.
The setup of the front room of the workshop looked attractive and it is to Jenny and Robyn, along with their helpers who achieved this along with those who manned the “Cash and Wrap” table. Thanks must go to these members because without them we would not have had a display or sale items available to the public. Sadly, as usual, we had to ask for assistance for the “Cash and Wrap” roster but when the call went out we had sufficient members who volunteered time to assist, even though some did not have items for sale.
The artists sold a considerable number of painting and the buyers were pleased with their purchases, some for home, and others for the office.
We had a small MACG raffle this year. With gratitude, we must thank the small number of groups and individuals for donating items that gave us sufficient items to be able to hold the raffle. Some of the items offered as part of the raffle prize, would themselves have been sufficient for a raffle prize. Fortunately this raffle and sales made sufficient money to cover our expenses for the Agricultural Show. The winner of the raffle was Jenny Eurell with ticket No F5.
Alas, just before the Agricultural Show we found a number of windows, on the road side of the building, broken. We are unsure as to the cause of this damage but they were replaced just before the Show. Again, if you see or hear anything suspicious please report it immediately.
With the colder weather comes the usual coughs and colds and a number of our members have succumbed to the different maladies spreading in the region. To those who are unwell we do hope you are soon better. On the other hand a number of members chose to go away to warmer climates for some of the colder months.
The quilters are working towards the next event in the MACG calendar, the Quilt Show. The colourful quilt for the raffle will soon be ready and tickets will then be issued for sale. We are still determining if there will be two or three prizes offered in this raffle. The Quilt Show is always well received and does make sufficient profit to allow us to keep the annual membership fees low.
Gallery Director's Report:
By Pricillia
May turned out to be a good month for sales in the Gallery. Having the gallery open during the weekend of the fair doesn't seem to reduce our sales at all which is great.
If you have been on shift recently you will have seen our two new card racks purchased with money left to us by Kathleen Dixon who made cards to sell in the gallery for many years. The cards are now much tidier than before and easier to see, in fact we had a rush on people looking for cards as we were filling the racks which was a good sign. There is also a new set of glass shelves in front of each window on the side wall. These have been purchased with a view of having all the glass products displayed together and in good light. Hopefully this will work well even though one set of shelves is in the children's area. There will be a few more moves of 'furniture' as we figure out how best to fit everyone's stock in without looking too cluttered.
In the meantime keep well and keep crafting.

Our members were encouraged to enter items in the Handicrafts Section of the recent Maleny Show. All were thrilled to receive many 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for their work and it has given us all the incentive to continue with our craft.Congratulations to our group and to all other individuals who entered items and were rewarded for their skills in the Show's various sections.
Our group will be visiting Jean Harris at Wamuran next week to continue on learning more painting skills under her expert guidance.
Sewing Group Report:

Busy times for our Sewing Group but now back to normal again.
Firstly we had the preparations for our Autumn Show and then our own MACG display in the Maleny Show. And well done to those ladies who put entries and gained prizes into the Maleny Show. Being in both organisations I know we all benefit. The display in the Show pavilion is so good and of course is good also the PR for our MACG Group.
Eight of our Ladies recently returned from their Tasmanian trip… lots of happy happy tales of their time away together !! Whilst they were away some of us did a visit to Patchwork Angel. Penny gave us a very informative talk on all what’s new in Craft. It was a lovely morning out with late lunch at Flaxton on the way home.
This month we are working on a little “ Tidy Up “ container… pattern by Lisa Chandler Design.
Our group is growing but new members are always welcome and this past month Sylvia and Kerry have joined us… welcome Ladies.
Spinners & Weavers Group Report:
By Robyn
Members of the Spinners and Weavers Group had another busy month in preparations for the Maleny Ag Show both with goods for sale, assisting in getting the workshop ready, demonstrations during the show and then restoring the workshop back to order afterwards. Thank you to everyone who helped with all this.
Our next project will be our paper making workshop so now we can focus our attention to preparing for that.
Clay Workers Group Report:

Thanks to courses given by Bev, we now have a few more members involved in wheelwork. And we have good news for them. Money left over from one of the grants is being used to create a throwing station. This will provide greater space for throwing on the wheel and for instruction, and includes a compressed concrete fibre board, additional shelves for work, and the allocation of increased space for items needing to dry sufficiently to be turned.
The workshop has become more organised and tidy and congratulations must go to Catherine for her tireless efforts to rid us of bad habits!
Congratulations also Diedre, Belinda, Michelle and Marianne for their prize-winning entries in the recent Maleny Show. It emphasises the importance of making an effort to display the sort of work we do, and to publicise our group. Next year, hopefully, even more members will be encouraged to enter some of their great work.
Glass Group Report:

Congratulations to all the winners in the Maleny Show. I am sure you will agree it was a great one this year with such wonderful weather. We are very lucky to still have our country show and should always support it.
We are very pleased to have our own glass shelves in the Gallery. Two new sets of shelves were bought and paid for with funds from the last Grant. They are now positioned in front of the two windows giving the Glass Group more space in the light. Check them out.
It is great weather to sit in the sun so I hope you all take advantage of it and enjoy doing something you love at the same time… as I will be doing.
Fine Art Group Report:

Where has this last month gone? Our thanks go to Jenny who put together the display at the Ag Show, thanks Jenny and all who helped. We sold 16 paintings all up. So a very good result all in all. Next week we have a workshop on inks with Sunshine Coast Artist Pauline Adair.
Our 'Artist of the Month', is Jean McRuvie. Please take time, when you are at the workshop, to stop and admire Jean’s amazing art.
