Artist of the Month - May 2018 Jean McRuvie This last year has seen the beginning of my more serious journey in art which I hope will see me improve and decide who I am as an artist. I have been working full time plus since we arried in Australia in 1980 and whilst I always had an interest in art that interest like may others, cam second to children, spouse and career.  I did go to a botanical art class for 6 evenings in 2008 at Buderim but never picked up a pencil once the 6 weeks was over although I have a sketch book of half finished drawings. Again I treated myself to a five day beginners watercolour course with Jame Fernley the watercolourist a few years later which was marvellous - but yet again I never picked up a paintbrush once that week was over and for this reason could not go to his intermediate classes because I had not practiced! My next foray into the art world was a 6 week (one day a week) course with Marcel Desbien at Brisbane Painting Class in Level ...

Art at the moment seems to be developing in all areas. I love the idea that all traditional media is being reinvented and re-imagined. All this experimentation makes art so exciting at the ...

Artist of the Month - December/January 2018   Diana Allan Diana's first love in art was painting China purely as a hobby in the late 70's.  Before she knew it, she was painting fabric that led to a business in Darling Harbour, retailing Hand Painted Clothing. Then a tree change to Montville and another business - 'The Montville Rose Boutique' - more fabric painting for 10 years! Then another change, this time to painting on canvas, real paintings to enjoy! In between painting, Diana finds time to feed most birds, three monitor lizards and any other animal that visits her home.  Hard to believe, but she sometimes finds time to teach painting!

Artist of the Month - October Lynn Pryor Lynn with her work hanging in the MACG Workshop I was fortunate as a child that I had a very talented artistic grandfather, he was gentle and patient and encouraged my very naive attempts at drawing. He ignited a passion in me that (after moving to Queensland from South Australia) led me to complete three years in Visual Communications at the Queensland College of Art. While I was an art student I freelanced drawing native animals and race horses. Horse riding was one of my passions until a certain race horse of mine, which shall remain nameless, and I parted company; he went through a fence and I went to hospital! I entered some of my wildlife pen and ink drawings in the Brookfield Show and won first prize in the drawing section for two consecutive years.  After graduating I worked for about 12 months as a commercial artist, but the Pizza, KFC and Supercheap Auto ads just didn't thrill me! I then landed a job in the Zoology Depart...

Artist of the Month - June Jennifer Eurell Jennifer Eurell joined the Maleny Art and Craft Group about two years ago after she moved to Mapleton from Rockhampton where she was a member of the Central Queensland Contemporary Art group.  She majored in printmaking for her Diploma of Visual Art at CQ TAFE, and recently completed a degree in Fine Art through Curtin University. Her current  Artist of the Month exhibition at MACG shows her interest in different mediums with works that include, acrylic painting, cold wax and oil painting, and linocuts combined with hand stitching and watercolour accents. Her interest is in pattern and repetition with themes from nature, or more feminine aspects using images of clothing. Some of her work also references the time she circumnavigated the world in a yacht, and in particular her visit to the Galapagos islands.
